YouTube now 50% Bigger!

YouTube has arguably become the default place to go for web video, (don't pout Vimeo, your HD content still looks awesome) so it's always been the source of some annoyance that YouTube has, until now, limited its clip length to 10 minutes.

YouTube yesterday happily announced that they are increasing their maximum clip length to 15 minutes. It seems the systems that they put in-place to identify, safeguard and even monetize copyrighted content are now powerful enough to let users upload longer videos.

YouTube's systems are called Audio ID and Video ID – copyright holders deliver reference content to YouTube with information about how they want the situation handled if their content is detected. They can choose to make money from the situation, get statistical information about their content or choose to have it removed altogether. The system is entirely automated by YouTube.

Will the limit be increased further?

Good question. What YouTube has said leads you think that the system has enough control over copyrighted content but that they are being justifiably cautious about increasing this limit. Hopefully in the future this will be increased further.
