Everyone lucky enough to own an iPhone likes to see a useful, cool or fun new app become available. Well the new apps from Yahoo would definitely fall under the useful category first, but that doesn’t stop it from being cool to. At the 2010 CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association) conference yesterday the search engine providers announced the release of two new apps.
The most interesting of the two is Yahoo! Sketch a Search. This handy little device makes searching for a restaurant wherever you are easier than ever. Say you’re out somewhere and want to get something to eat but don’t really know the area that well, let alone the zip or post code.
Well with the Sketch a Search application you can simply draw a circle around the general area on the map and it will find restaurants in that area for you.
Furthermore it provides restaurant ratings and reviews, photos of many of the restaurants and even the prices. You can also filter your Sketch Search by the type of cuisine, the ambiance and ratings
allowing you to find exactly what you are looking for, making this a pretty handy little app.
This application is also backed up by the release of the Yahoo Search app at the same time. To give the Yahoo search app a bit of weight they’ve used voice search, embedded maps and information from various Yahoo resources to provide a comprehensive and attractive tool. The integrated map features are also well tailored to assist you in getting the right results every time with location based results.
One aspect of these new Yahoo apps which will certainly boost their popularity is the fact that they are both free to download. With such useful features it certainly won’t take iPhone owners long to get on board.
