Webmaster Videos – PageRank and Browsers, Ranking and Site Availability!

It’s time once again to look at some salient SEO conundrums and say – I wish one of Matt Cutts’ colourful psychedelic backgrounds was here to help me…

PageRank and Browsers Compatibility

I do find this a lot. People tend to confuse the idea of what the PageRank algorithm is for and how people can confuse it with other important topics. Basically, it’s all about links – their number and (very importantly) their quality.

Ranking and Site Availability

Although the questioner makes reference to PageRank, it’s clear that the important thing is the rankings. After all, a high PageRank does not automatically guarantee high listings for every keyphrase – that would make no sense at all. It is ‘relevance’ that is the key idea for rankings, authority alone doesn’t cut it. After all, just because someone has a Nobel prize it doesn’t mean that they are a good source of information about your apartment’s plumbing issues…

So the key lesson, with regards to site down-time, would be – if your site does have to go off line then don’t panic, but do get it back online as soon as possible.
