We’ve been pushing the safety angle for a little while now, keeping you posted on the security stories that are important within the industry. I think it’s important that people consider security no matter what they are doing online, from SEO to ordering your shopping.
Yesterday Del Harvey, Director of Twitter's Trust and Safety team, blogged about a new system that is being introduced to help protect Twitter users from falling victim to malicious attacks.
From now on, all links submitted to Twitter will be route through their servers, allowing them to protect users from being sent to sites that could negatively impact their security. As Direct Messages are one of the main avenues for these types of attack, this is where much of their attention has been focused. Though this new service should be mostly transparent occasionally you may notice that links have been shortened to twt.tl in email notifications and Direct Messages.
