They say the devil makes work for idle hands. Well he’s certainly not going to be getting anyone from the Cozy Digital team to do his biddings as our hands have been anything but idle this week. So much is the case that Kev has vanished from the blog all together. In fact if anyone sees Kev could they please direct him this way, we’re beginning to worry. Also, please don’t feed the Kev. Anyway, I and my sidekick Robert (he won’t like that) have still been here with some groovy net news.
On a serious note, Google are looking into improving the help information and phone numbers in their results for people making suicide based searches. It seems a good idea as some of the results for this kind of search are disturbingly upbeat. This whole move apparently started after a mother suggested to Google that they make it easier to find helpline numbers in their results.
It’s been a mixed week for Google as some bad news has come flooding their way, but then when you’re as successful as the leaders at Google everyone wants to take a pop at you. Poor multi-millionaires. First up, they can add another lawsuit to their already bursting portfolio as alongside the lawsuit over Google scanning authors content, the photographers who provide the images want a piece of the action. Next to join the queue will probably be the editors and people who have read the book more than once.
It’s not just regular working Joes taking a pop at Google either as über-human Rupert Murdoch has taken an affront to Google’s indexing of news stories. It seems only a matter of time before the newspaper magnate throws up a pay-wall for his newspaper sites such as The Times. I can’t help feeling people will just go to the BBC news site. Oooh, sore spot.
In addition to this, Google have continued to slide in their search engine market share as revealed by the latest stats from Hitwise. They’d better watch out because if they don’t stop this slipping trend then Yahoo might catch them. Probably at about the same time that hell freezes over or Elvis turns up riding Shergar.
Elsewhere, Google Chrome has announced that unlike Firefox, they should shortly be bundling flash with their browser just to make things a little easier. Also, are you spending wisely with Google AdWords? Find out how you can do better. Finally, the big World Cup Sponsors such as Adidas and Coca-Cola are missing out on potential advertising as they seem to be lacking in the SEO department. Of course these brands ‘clearly’ need the advertising. What’s Coca-Cola anyway, some kind of Panda Pops rip-off?
