Ramsay’s Web Wire – Issue #7: Easter Eggs

A Good Friday to everyone! Ah yes, Easter has rolled around once again, but we should always remember that there is more to this holiday than simply rolling boiled eggs and stuffing your face with chocolate. It celebrates the day that Jesus rose from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living, or something like that. Either way, holiday or not I’m still here to give you your weekly dose of concentrated web.

As usual it’s a topsy-turvy week for Google who for every bit of bad press seem to release two new features to balance the scale. We took a more in depth look at what truly motivates Google’s actions in China. Of course Google doesn’t want you to worry about that. “Here, look at these shiny new features instead” sayeth Google. “We hath released a new mobile feature for AdWords and yay it is good”. Not all good apparently though, as you would think that Google would address the lack of effort in AdWords support setup first.

But for every sin that Google commits they look for penance with more applications and services. If you’ve heard of or used experiments from Google Labs then you may be interested in their new Ad Innovations where you can get involved in new marketing technologies. In addition Google is looking to make its Wave business platform a standard for the industry.

As another boon for Google, Chrome maintained its halo in a recent hacking contest. The browser came out of the contest as top dog against a variety of other browsers when tested by a team of hackers. Furthermore, Chrome is looking to strike a deal with Adobe to bundle the flash technology with the browser.

Elsewhere, Apple have been working hard to ensure that the iPad improves on it’s less than sterling unveiling. We look at some of the pluses that the tablet has to offer. Unfortunately, no ten commandments feature but at least they have a few well made apps.
