ADVERTISING!
Ha, got your attention, and after all isn’t that what advertising’s all about. Well there’s probably a bit more to it that simply screaming your product name at people. You could try waving your arms or throwing things at them. Perhaps these aren’t the best methods for advertising (or meeting girls by the way,) but fortunately there are better ways to advertise and increase your sales online.
When it comes to online advertising there is little that comes close to Google Adwords. It’s like the Jesus of online advertising. A level 7 Jesus with magic powers and a shotgun. There’s a lot to AdWords but fortunately we’ve spent enough time around it to learn a thing or two, such as a good understanding of the Google AdWords Quality Score. Also, one somewhat more recent addition to AdWords advertising is it’s attachment to YouTube videos. Tying adverts to relevant or associated videos seems a pretty good way to advertise. Think about it, you could use football videos to sell sports equipment or using Girls Aloud music videos to sell steaming piles of manure.
What with YouTube turning 5 this week it’s only fair they get a mention, so thank you YouTube. Thanks for wasting hours of my life. If I see another video of a cat playing a musical instrument or doing something else as endlessly amusing I think I might just die inside.
Another player in the online advertising game, is Microsoft’s AdCenter. With these two companies never getting along, AdCenter is like AdWords arch nemesis. So if AdWords is Jesus, then that makes AdCenter ‘Mumra.’ Unfortunately for 'Microsoft the Ever Living,' their advertising network has had to call out the lawyers, as fraudsters found a way to scam their service. Find out about who these scammers are and what their angle is.
Of course Google aren’t perfect either, as they seem incapable of even keeping their own stores up and running with the Nexus One online store grinding to a halt. Perhaps they should have looked at our 7 unmissable tips to increase online sales.
Without a pass to Google’s I/O conference we’ve had to get our man on the inside marine style. Reporting from inside a bathroom cubicle Robert has been keeping us up to date with all the goings on at Google’s main event.
Elsewhere this week we looked at how the UK is finally waking up to online security. We also heard Chief of Google Eric Schmidt’s renowned mediation skills, as in response to the streetcar privacy row he told everyone to ‘Take a chill pill” and then followed this up stating that “Weiners are wieners.” I could be paraphrasing here.
