Cool
Goodness me how exciting, a new video editor right on Youtube for you to edit all your Youtube videos. There are so many rubbish videos on YouTube which could be ten times better with just a little bit of cutting, wiping and music. And now everyone can turn their ‘Battlefield Earth’ into ‘The Hurt Locker’ with a few simple edits directly online. No need to download the expensive and often complicated video editing software, you can try it now via YouTube’s TestTube page. The simple editor lets you:
- Combine multiple videos you’ve uploaded to create a new longer video.
- Trim the beginning and/or ending of your videos.
- Add soundtracks from their AudioSwap library of tens of thousands of songs.
- Create new videos without worrying about file formats and publish them to YouTube with one click — no upload necessary.
Tutorials
In case you get stuck, here are a couple of tutorials from some delightful characters:

However
I have a big ‘however’ though, having used Final Cut Pro for several years I was a bit sceptical about what I could only assume was an incredibly simple editing suite, and I was not wrong. While the editor lets you change endings and beginnings, there is no option to cut stuff from the middle, no wipes, no layering, no speed changing, no colour editor, no transitions, the list goes on. The editor may as well be on a mobile phone it is that simple. I can see many people using this to begin with, but they will get to its limits of its utility pretty swiftly.
OK…I’m being harsh.
The editor should help the majority of people with no editing experience to improve their videos in a cheap and cheerful fashion. The choice of music is pretty good too, with a range of different styles so everyone should be able to find something to suit. This is still in test phase too, so many features may still be added when it is released fully. Once you’ve had a go let them know what you like and what you don’t like on the YouTube blog and hopefully they will get some new features in soon enough.
Here is a nice song edited on YouTube to play us out…
