MS Internet Explorer Gets A “Nein” From German Government

The German government has taken the unusual step of warning its citizens from using the popular browser Microsoft Internet Explorer. This warning, issued by the Federal Office for Information Security, has been issued due to a bug that has now been made public due to the release of code exploiting this flaw.

This information arrives as Microsoft admits that its Internet Explorer software was the ‘weak link’ used in the recent and widely reported attack on Google.

A spokesman for Microsoft in Germany, Thomas Baumgaertner, spoke to the BBC and said they did not agree with the warning issued by the German government, stating that the attacks on Google were from

“highly motivated people with a very specific agenda”.

He went on to say

“These were not attacks against general users or consumers”

and

“There is no threat to the general user, consequently we do not support this warning”

Microsoft normally releases patches for its software in a monthly cycle often referred to by others as “Patch Tuesday”, but a spokesman for Microsoft spoke to BBC news and said

“We are working on an update on this issue and this may well involve an out of cycle security update”.
