Here is the Google news…
Goo.gl
Google have decided to release their URL shortener beyond its previous incarnation within their toolbar, feedburner rss service, news, blogger and maps as they wanted to make available a stable, secure and speedy option for users. Also, the URL shortener can be used in conjunction with Google Analytics to monitor traffic to the shortened URLs. Smarter than your average URL shortener… check it out at http://goo.gl/
New Search Keyboard Shortcuts
No this isn’t about Mat Cutts’ diminutive sibling….for anyone that has lost the use of their mouse at a crucial moment while searching Google, this now won’t be a problem in the future as Google have added new keyboard shortcuts to let you keep on searching. In true simplistic Google style, when your search results appear you will notice a tiny arrow at the left of your first result. Using your arrow keys you can jump down through your results until you find the page you want to go to and press enter. Simple and handy.
Chrome Update
Google have just upgraded Chrome slightly with a Beta Channel update. Chrome v7.0.517.24 is not a massive change which has left some people disappointed, especially as Google had pledged to make more regular updates to Chrome. But Google have said that this is more of a precursor to major changes in the near future and that people should check out their developer channel release v 7.0.536.2 which has some sweet new features.
Google Instant Goes Back to the Future
If you have been using Google Instant and have been missing those web history suggestions that pop up as you type, you will have them back really soon. As one of the many things which are missing from Google Instant search compare to regular search it will be interesting to see how Google have improved this sometimes handy, sometimes annoying feature.
Watch This Space
Finally, Google stood up in front of the real life Mad Men recently and delivered a rousing pitch to the Interactive Advertising Bureau's annual MIXX conference in New York. The presenters want to point out that display advertising with them is sexy and smart. Not much stuff was actually announced at the conference as far as Google is concerned but the intro presentation is pretty cool.
