Google Analytics, amazing as it is, does require a little tweaking to get the best out of it. One of these essential tweaks is setting up goal conversions.
This is very easy to set up in Google Analytics and can really help you determine what content, keyphrases and websites are helping you achieve your goals. To do this you need to go to Analytics settings> Profile settings> Goal settings. From there you can give your goal a descriptive name, set your goal URL and the goal value.
The first thing you need to do is give your goal a name, in the example video below we have called our goal “newsletter sign up”. We then need to click on the URL destination radio button as in our example the goal is triggered once some hits a particular page.
In the Match section we will just leave this set to the default setting of head match. We now need to specify the actual page that will trigger the goal. In our example we have chosen the “thank you page.html”. This will tell Analytics that when someone hits this page that is considered our goal completed.
Finally you need to give your goal a value. In most cases you can leave this blank or set it to 1. You can put a monetary value in here if you like. Click save and you’re done.
I hope you find the below video helpful when setting up a goal in Google Analytics. We would love to hear your thoughts.
