Google’s Superbowl Of Data Security

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a US-based non-profit legal organisation that “championed the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights” has passed comment on the recent Google Advert seen during the Superbowl.

They point out how Google’s own adverts actually perfectly illustrate how important online data security is. It shows how a person’s search data could indeed be used to build up a picture of their private life – even more so if that person has perhaps searched for a political parties website, etc.

Once again this highlights how much information the big players in the search market could hold on their users, and with Bing recently saying that they were reducing the time they stored IP addresses from 18 to 6 months this surely places further pressure on Mountain View.
