In Google Search, snippets are the small section of information that Google takes from the web page it is linking to in the search results. Last year they introduced the idea of ‘Rich Snippets’, allowing website owners to select information from their web pages to appear in search results.
Previously only supported formats were for reviews, people, and video. However Google is now introducing support for events. This allows search results to contain information about events for that search keyphrase, giving the user extremely quick access to detailed information.
As with the previous implementation of snippets, labelling your events data does not ensure that Rich Snippets will be displayed with your search listing, Google are progressively rolling this feature out.
