This is a question that always seems to come up, why doesn’t Google create a ranking checker so people can see where they rank in Google for particular key terms. As this can be a big strain on the Google servers as scrapping software scrapes Google for rankings. This would also save us a lot of time as we have to manually search each position on the search engine.
In a video below Ryan Dearborn asks this very question to Googles head of spam Matt Cutts. Although webmaster tools are an excellent place to find a variety of help on how your website is fairing in Google it does not include a ranking checker. It does however show you where you are ranking for some selected keyphrases.
This is all interesting because Google did answer a similar question some time back in a previous video. At the time Matt Cutts said that you should not focus too much on your token keyphrases. instead analyse your server logs to see what keyphrases you may already be ranking for to see which keyphrases would be better to optimise for. This is another great reason why you should have Google analytics set up on your website.
