Experian Hitwise yesterday released their search engine trends for March and once again it’s bad news for Google. Hitwise is one of the most respected providers of statistical information on the web and their results from the top search engines popularity often shows some interesting trends. For the fourth consecutive month Google have lost ground to their competitors within the US market.
This month Google dropped one percent of their share alongside Bing which dropped the same amount. On the other hand, Yahoo saw a growth of 3% and Ask.com increased its traffic by an impressive 21% although they are still a distant fourth in the market with only 3.44% of searches.

Of course Google could be forgiven for overlooking this as they still hold just short of 70% of the market share. However, when you consider that they have slipped from well over that margin in the last year it could become an issue worth looking into. Furthermore Yahoo, their nearest competitor, have been seeing steady growth and although they are a way off bridging the gap on Google, recent results can only boost their confidence and shows that recent marketing strategies could be paying off.
