The biggest revolution in advertising history was the invention of the internet and Google AdWords played a major part in orchestrating this revolution. Never before could advertisers target their ads just to the people who looking for the product or services at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising. The old adage “I know half my advertising works but I don’t know which half” became a distant memory.
Take television advertising for example you may get your products exposed to millions of viewers but how many of these people are interested in buying your product? And how do you track if your ad campaign was a success? Also testing your ads for the best conversion is very difficult not to say expensive and out of reach of most businesses.
A lot of television channels have also seen a massive reduction in ad revenue over the last few years due to the internet advertising revolution; however Google is changing all this.
Google TV advertising works similar to AdWords as you can set up a campaign and target your TV ads to specific TV Channels of your choice. You then set a price you are willing to pay per 1000 impressions, set demographs etc.
Although at the moment this service seems to be only available in the US, this will hopefully be rolled our worldwide. This system has the potential to further revolutionise advertising and make TV advertising more affordable to smaller companies but you could argue that you will still need to invest in creating your ad.
