Google Drops Ageing Internet Explorer

You may recall something of a fracas with Google and China last month, well it seems the fallout from that particular international kerfuffle is still, well, falling.

The BBC is reporting that Google is to remove support for Internet Explorer 6. IE was the browser apparently identified as the ‘weak link’ in the reported attack.

From March 1st IE6 users will find that some of Google’s popular services (such as Google Docs) will not work “properly” in the ageing browser.

For those people using IE6 the question really must be ‘why haven’t you upgraded?’ Even if you still want to stick with a Microsoft browser (and let’s not get into that discussion) then you have the option to upgrade, for free, to the latest version – IE8 – just run Windows Update on your machine.

I’d admit that for corporate users it isn’t that simple, you may be tied to IE6 for other reasons. For the home users – please upgrade your 8 year old browser, it’ll be better for everyone concerned!
