At the end of last month we mentioned that there seemed to be the possibility that Google could start bundling Flash with their Chrome browser. It looks like this is a certainty now as a recent post to The Chromium Blog not only talk about including Flash but also lists some of the ways in which Google and Adobe plan to integrate Flash with the Chrome system.
- There will be no need for users to separately install Flash player.
- The Chrome auto-updating system will also update Flash player, this removes one major security flaw – users not updating their software.
- Chrome developers also plan to extend their “sandbox” system to encompass webpages with Flash content. This will add further security for users.
While it seems that Google is happy to bundle super-popular plugins like Flash with their browser, it seems that Mozilla, the people behind the worlds second most popular browser – Firefox, aren’t so convinced. IT news and sarcasm site The Register reports on an email conversation with Mozilla:
“Mozilla has no current plans to bundle Flash with Firefox downloads,”
“Mozilla has always made it easy to install Flash and other plugins via the Automatic Plugin Finder Service, which has been part of Firefox for years.”
Will this be a factor for users? Do most people just want a browser to consider and update these plugins without them even thinking about it? Let us know your thoughts!
