Google has just launched a new plug-in for Google calendar called Smart rescheduler. I was a big fan of Google calendar in the past until I realised its limitations. It was great that you could share calendars with other user which is just not possible in Outlook without an exchange server.
The problem I have with calandars in general is that they don’t tell you if there is a conflict when setting up a recurring calendar event. Before I get inundated with comments saying that you can do this in Outlook I will say yes you can do it in Outlook which is fantastic, however only with your default calendar. If you create a new calendar that you share it does not give you the conflict warning.
So imagine my optimism when I learned about this new smart rescheduler from Google calendar. It seemed to tick all the boxes. What the smart rescheduler does is let you reschedule an appointment with a time that is free for all shared calendars. This is of course a great new feature until of course you try to apply it to recurring appointments. The plug-in will indeed find a free spot for the appointment but only the instance that you select and not all of the other appointment in that series.
So this is indeed a step in the correct direction but not a solution in my oppinion. What is your experience with Google calendar? We would love to hear your thoughts.
