Google Avoids Estimated £450m British Tax Bill

The Guardian reports that Google used a “cross-border network of subsidiary companies” so that it did not have to pay any corporation tax in Britain.

The tax bill, thought to be around of £450 million, is not paid in Britian (though they have offices in both London and Manchester, and a reported wage-bill of £70 million) due to the way Google organises its businesses across a number of regions.

With the British economy recently finding the road ever-so-slightly rocky, it remains to be seen how public opinion will view companies using tactics to reduce the tax they pay in the UK.
