The relentless Cozy Digitalary march of Google's Apps machine means that it's actually pretty tricky to keep a proper tab on all the progress that each of their varied projects is making. Luckily Google occasionally sticks an App Highlight post on their official blog. It of course serves as an advert for their services, but it also lets people who may previously have been unconvinced by their projects to see the progress they are making. No one thinks twice about checking the teeth on a free gift-horse these days…
Gmail
The list of file types that Gmail will now let you open in-browser continues to grow, with the recent addition of the omni-popular doc and docx formats. Furthermore they have added more file types to the mobile version of Google Docs so similar files can be accessed on the move.
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) in Google Docs
This one is really very awesome. OCR is the process of turning images of text into actual text recognisable by a computer – think of scanning a document and having that turned into text you can then edit in a word processor. It’s a very powerful tool for general use, but for archival or re-accesing old printed materials its staggering.
Google Voice
This service has been rolled out for more users but unfortunately its not yet available outside of the US. It's an interesting proposition for phone, text message and voice mail collaboration. Hopefully it'll be washing onto our shores sometime soon.

Google is winning people over
Finally we have some interesting testimonial adverts for Google's services from Brown University in the US and for multinational company Imagination. Google is clearly trying to show a weight of opinion for their services but it's difficult not to agree with many of the points being raised – the ease of diverse systems like Apple and Windows machines to have a common structure across a large multinational corporation is one such benefit:
