It’s not often that I get the opportunity to write about food on the SEO blog, but now that it’s come along I’m going to grab it with both hands and stuff it in my gob. The reason for this food related post is that the slow rollout of Google’s rich snippets has now expanded to include recipes. Yay!
If you’re a regular visitor to our blog then, first of all thanks but also you might remember back at the end of January when we went over what rich snippets had to offer. Then to quickly backtrack for a moment they are small sections of information that Google takes from a webpage it is linking to in search results. What makes them rich is the fact that web owners can tailor and select the information that appears in search results. For information on how you can tailor rich snippets on your site see this Webmaster Central breakdown on tailoring a reviews rich snippet.
For the recipe rich snippet you can now make a search for a meal you want to make and you might be returned with an image of the meal along with a rating, cooking time and further information. The Webmaster Central Blog uses thai mango salad as it’s example but I’m more of a fan of a good spaghetti carbonara recipe myself.
With rich snippets still in its ascendancy there could be many more varieties to come alongside currently; reviews, people, video and more recently events and recipes. Whatever next?
P.S. This will officially be my hundredth post on the Cozy Digital so please feel free to retweet and you can send me a congratulatory gift if you want to.
P.P.S. I like cuban cigars.

Interesting that they are now including different pieces of information for meals, it’s no wonder people are getting bigger, haha. I wonder what else they could do to expand on this, maybe YouTube videos? That’ll definitely do the trick in getting me hungrier than I am already after reading this post.
P.s Congrats on the hundredth post

Thanks for that Adam. Role on 200 posts. They’re already creating rich snippets of videos so you could well be on to something with YouTube. They’re also rating businesses now which I overlooked before.
P.S. I await my cigar in the post.
