At Cozy Digital we know the importance of using Google Analytics to monitor your site. It’s such a useful tool, as while being completely free it certainly identifies some key issues for your website such as bounce rate. But what is bounce rate and why should you care about it?
Bounce rate is the percentage of visitors to your site who leave after viewing only one page. Generally, a high bounce rate is a bad thing as it means that you aren’t connecting with the audience that you’re bringing to your sites landing page.
Of course the relevance of bounce rate is dependent on the type of site you’re running. If for example it is a blog then it’s not surprising if you have a high bounce rate as many people will come to your page, read the content and then leave. If however, you’re running an ecommerce site then a high bounce rate becomes a major problem. So how do you set about sorting this?
First and foremost you should ensure that your landing page is as compelling as possible. You want to sell your sites potential then and there to keep the attention of the visitor and bring in the sale. Secondly you want to ensure that the keywords are as relevant to the landing pages as possible. There’s no point in bringing a user to a high quality page if it’s not what you’ve promised them in the initial link. If you are using Adwards find out how to write effective ads so that you can bring in the right customers and make those conversions.
If you have Analytics installed you can check your sites bounce rate by going to Bounce Rate Report under Visitors > Visitor Trending > Bounce Rate.
