Check Out This Video of the New Super Fast Firefox 4 Beta 7

What do we want? Speed! When do we want it? Yesterday! Alright, alright, here you go…

The ladies and gentlemen down at Mozilla have always been a good bunch of geeks, but with this latest update they have really rather out done themselves. With Firefox under fierce pressure from the likes of Chrome and IE9b (cough), this could be the moment Firefox reminds the world why they are particularly special.

In an effort to boost Firefox's core javascript engine:  TraceMonkey, Mozilla has given birth to JaegerMonkey, their new speedy engine upgrade which will provide faster loading, faster start up and support for graphical demanding app based tasks. As well as this it includes a wealth of other changes to things such as the handy Panorama function – now with added 'how-to' video, support for OpenType format and support for 3D graphics rendering with WebGL. Read about all the changes here.

Here is a video of JaegerMonkey in action:

Download it here and try it yourself. It even works on Windows XP!

Finally, here are Mozilla’s own speed benchmarking graphs which show more details of the improvements on from beta 6.

Can’t wait for full Firefox 4 to be released! Hope it supports HTML5 video though…
