This week has been a busy week in terms of Matt Cutts videos on the webmasters channel on YouTube. On Monday we reported on was Google to release Ranking Checking Software? Then on Tuesday the question was put to Matt Cutts What Are Nofollow Links, And Do I Want Them?
Today has seen the trend continue with this latest offering on the subject: 'Should You Bother to Tag your Blog Posts?'
Tagging your blog posts are a way to associate your posts with different words that are relevant to the blog post. Many bloggers seem to think this has SEO benefits but not according to Matt Cutt’s (and he should know).
He also goes on to mention the use of categories in the video which I think is a good idea not in terms of SEO but for usability. By using categories you can cross reference different posts that may fit into more than one category. For example here on the Cozy Digital you will find posts that are in the news section that are also in the SEO section.
This brings me onto the point of keyphrase density. Cozy Digital have always been of the opinion that you should not worry too much about keyphrase density as long as you write your post or content naturally you will find that most of your keyphrases are included in your content. The rule here is to write for your visitors with SEO in mind not the other way around.
As Matt says in his video you only need to mention your keyphrases a couple of time for Google to get the idea what your content is about. So there is no need to mention it 100 times.
What’s your thoughts on this do you use Blog tagging? We would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
