Social media is one of the biggest things currently happening on the internet amongst the younger generations, that and the ill-advised plagiarism of Wikipedia. The social media craze started not all that long ago with sites such as MySpace and Bebo which quickly became obsolete; that is just how quickly the social media race is run. Current favourites obviously include sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other such sites where people can inform other people of what is happening to them every second of every day.
Since the rise of social media most other forms of communication have become essentially obsolete, I personally can’t remember the last time I was invited to a friend’s event in person, or if I was I would still have a lovely little reminder waiting for me to agree to it again when I got home.
What sites such as Facebook clearly have over the sites such as Bebo are the extra little add-ons. Instant messaging, networking possibilities, publicising possibilities, mass invitation possibilities, you could say the possibilities are endless. All of these things make life a lot easier, it can be very tricky if you are say planning a large event to personally invite however many hundreds of people that you wish to attend.
Of course social media is immensely important in today’s society. One of the things that is the most important for is advertising. These days if you don’t have a little advert popping up somewhere on someone’s social media page then you are going to fall behind the other businesses. People pay a great deal of attention to what they are told online and if something is popping up everywhere or is being raved about online the chances are their business is going to go up.
Networking is another fantastic perk of social media, with the ability to create pages for your company or brand for people to view and sites such as linked in where you can publicly display yourself and your talents it can be a lot easier to make connections. If someone with some influence sees something of yours online and likes it then they can easily contact you, converse with you about said product or brand, and the wheels of commerce start to turn.
Social media will only become more and more popular as more and more sites or add-ons keep cropping up that can make your life just that little bit easier.
