Here at Cozy Digital we always look forward to Matt Cutts grab-bag videos so we were excited to learn that there has been a new video posted on the Google blog. For those of you who don’t know the format, these videos they are a chance for us mere mortals to get their questions answered by Google via Matt Cutts, however for some reason for in this latest video Matt Cutts has been replaced by a Golem lookalike.
The question that has been answered in detail in this current video is “How do Google treat links from Twitter and Facebook?”
What is the most interesting thing about this video for us here at Cozy Digital is that Golem describes how Google does not treat .edu and .gov links any different from any other link. This is something we have long been in knowledge of, but for some reason parts of the industry still thinks that these kind of links are more important to your website. If you do have links from these kinds of sites and you have seen a great improvement in website strength and ranking it’s not because they are .gov or .edu’s websites – it’s just these kinds of site do tend to be naturally stronger. Hence the strength these sites have will pass on to yours.
This is just the first in a new series of videos where Matt Cutts will be answering your questions, we will keep you up-to-date on any new posts. Alternatively you can keep up to date with the latest videos by following Google webmaster central on Twitter @googlewmc.
If you would like to get a sneak peek of which questions are likely to be answered, or even post a question yourself, then mosey along to Google Moderator (if you like, you can see the question we asked).
