Whilst many businesses actively use Facebook and Twitter as a vital part of their online marketing strategies, Instagram is often neglected: But did you know that this resource could prove to be an incredibly powerful tool for connecting with your target audience?
What is Instagram?
Released in 2010, Instagram is a freeware photo-sharing service which is available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone operating systems. Describing their product as ‘a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends and family’, the team behind Instagram has seen their user-base grow exponentially over the past 5 years, with around 300 million monthly active users, 2.5 billion ‘likes’ per day and over 70 million photos and videos posted each and every day.
As of 2012, Facebook bought up Instagram to the tune of around US$1 billion: This has made the service even more accessible to the masses. In 2013, Instagram was the fastest growing mobile app – when one also considers the fact that in terms of engagement, Instagram is 15 times as effective as Facebook, this acquisition was a very shrewd move indeed.
What are the key features of Instagram?
Instagram allows users to upload photos and short video clips, create web profiles, follow the feeds of other users, tag content and create and join specific user groups.
One of the big draws of Instagram is its ability to allow users to apply photo filters to their media: This allows the content to really shine with an added artistic flair, without the need for expensive post processing software or physical lens filters.
With the addition of many new features over the past couple of years, including the ability to connect user accounts to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other services, Instagram has seamlessly integrated into many peoples’ day to day routines.
